Shore Fishing on Skye and Lochalsh
The small village of Elgol is truly a jewel on Skye. The stunning contrast between the small beach and the Cuillin mountain range is a sight to behold. Many boat tours operate from Elgol across to Loch Coruisk as well at the small isles making it an ideal place to visit with the family. The fishing around here is also impressive and can suit those of all abilities.

The small jetty in Elgol is very busy with both fishing and tour boats during the summer months so you may find fishing here involves a lot of stopping and waiting to allow boats access or exit. However it is a great place for anglers with mobility issues or young kids. Fishing with small fish baits on size 2 hooks proves lethal for dabs and flounders, frustratingly the water is so clear you can see potential fish toying with the bait. There are multitudes of small pollack and coalfish around the jetty up to around 1lb. By no means the biggest you can catch on Skye, but for kids or on light tackle they are fun all the same. During the evening or early morning it is common to see dogfish and rays swimming in the crystal clear water off the jetty so it would be worth trying larger baits at these times. Due to the proximity of mooring lines you are unable to cast more than 100 yards without getting snagged, however this doesnt seem to cause much of an issue in terms of catching fish.

A short walk to the headland of Elgol will put you into much deeper water with the chance of a range of fish. As you walk round the coast simply try areas offering easy AND SAFE access. Pollack up to 10lb are not uncommon to jellyworm or float fishing and this also seems to be a noteworthy hotspot for wrasse. Fishing on the bottom here is particularly good for conger eel probably owing to the rough seabed. Be prepared to lose a lot of gear but the rewards can be worth it. Fishing large fish or crab baits on a rotten bottom pulley rig with 100-200lb mono hooklength will give you the best chance of success.
